Great story. I lived some of those days with you and reading your side, those of us who didn't get laid off lived great suck, lots of hyper busy-ness on delivering code that often didn't go into production. Love the portrayal that feeding our humanity is bigger than any sized paycheck
Thanks Fleming! I didn't get into our September 13th, 2001 van ride with Roution from Dallas to Denver, but that was certainly the lead in! I also remember at least a little bit of the post-layoff suck that you mention because BT hired me back as a contractor for a month or so after they laid me off (which I left out because I was already pushing 2500 words).
